Button Bay, VT (WBSP) — BUTTON BAY WIN SECOND WORLD SERIES!!. Rogers Hornsby and Steve O'Neill combined for 9 of 9 hitting in Game 6 of the World Series to lead Button Bay's offense. Defensive miscues by Texas helped spoil Texas' rematch, with 3 errors contributing to 5 unearned runs in the 9-7 final. 「boxscore」
Arlington, TX (WBSP) — Button Bay gave Bill Pertica a roughing up today, pinning him with 6 runs before the end of the 6th inning, winning Game 5, 7-4. Rogers Hornby, solid again at the plate, batted 2 of 4 with a triple, 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Wilbur Cooper did his part from the mound, allowing 2 earned runs in 8 and snagging the win. Button Bay took 2 of 3 in from Texas in their series homestand, and head back home to Vermont needing 1 more win to capture the World Series crown. 「boxscore」

Arlington, TX (WBSP) — The Benedicts clawed their way back late, scoring the final 7 runs of the game to win 8-5, stealing Game 4 from Texas and evening the series up 2-2. Fred Nicholson did most of the work early for the Tornados with a solo shot in 1st inning, followed by a 2-run single in 4th, to help build a 5-1 lead. But a pinch hit double by Frank Brower in the 7th sparked a 3-run rally for Button Bay, followed by a 8th inning double by Steve O'Neill, knotting the game. An error by Nicholson at first allowed Walton Cruise to score the go-ahead run from 3rd. The Benedicts' win will see the Series back in Button Bay, after Game 5 tomorrow in Arlington. 「boxscore」

Arlington, TX (WBSP) — Texas bats did the job today, scoring in 6 of 8 innings in a 9-4 victory. The Tornados batted 16 of 40 as a team and spread the offense across down the batting order. Rube Benton didn't need anyhelp from the bullpen, managing to wriggle out of a bases-loaded, no-out, 2nd inning, and a late scare in the ninth. Button Bay, VT (WBSP) — Button Bay ran away with Game 2 today, racking up 8 runs before Texas could answer and holding off a late Tornado rally, winning 9-6. Rogers Hornsby did most of the damage for the Benedicts, batting 3 of 4 with 2 doubles, 4 RBIs, and a run scored. Starter Jesse Barnes pitched 6 scoreless before getting in trouble late, but got the win. The Benedicts and Tornados hit the road for Arlington, knotted at one apiece heading into Game 3. 「boxscore」

Alto, NM (WBSP) — Fred Nicholson went DEEP in the top of ninth, cranking the clutch 2-run shot that won the Doubleday League Pennant, coming from behind to upset Alto. The late innings packed excitement: in the top of 8th, Wally Schang's double scored Ira Flagstead to tie the game but Dave Bancroft tried to follow him to grab the lead and was thown out at the plate. In the bottom of the 8th, fortunes reversed as Rabbit Maranville's 2-out double scored Aaron Ward to retake the lead, and Muddy Ruel was thrown out at home on a relay throw from Herm Merrit to end the inning. Williston, ND (WBSP) — After huge disappointments in the prior 2 seasons, the Wendigos finally won a postseason series, coming back from a 3-1 game series against the Austin Aces. Urban Shocker pitched 8 solid innings, only allowing 2 unearned runs and drove in the game winning run in the 6th, scoring Dave Robertson from second. Williston will travel to Button Bay to face the defending Worlkd Series Champions; the Wendigos are licking their chops, hoping to payback the Benedicts for their sweep in the 1920 WCS! 「boxscore」
Amarillo, TX (WBSP) — The Tornados outlasted the Whoopies in 11 innings to even the Doubleday Wild Card Series up 1-1. Macon pitcher Clarence Mitchell lasted 10 innings, but gave up all 5 runs unearned. Mitchell left the game after walking Ted Odenwald to lead off the bottom of the 11th. Austin, TX (WBSP): The Aces clinched the final playoff berth in today's final game of the season, behind a strong outing by Sherry Smith who threw a 2-run complete game against the first place Benedicts , and finished the season 12-13 with a 4.05 ERA. Austin got the necessary work done, piecing together 4 runs in the first inning on 6 hits, never looking back. The Aces will travel to Williston, ND to face the Wendigos in the Knickerbocker Wild Card Series, while Macon will travel to Arlington to face the Tornados. 「boxscore」

New Orleans, LA (WBSP): Edd Roush and Waite Hoyt led the Wild Mustangs to victory today, clinching the Doubleday League regular season pennant. Roush batted 3 for 5 with a triple, including the go-ahead single in the 7th inning. Hoyt pitched a solid 8 innings, getting his 21st win of the season, and finishing with a 3.34 ERA. Rivendell, ME (WBSP): Defending champs Button Bay clinched the Knickerbocker League pennant today, coming from behind to defeat Rivendell 6-5. Rivendell took an early 5-0 lead, fueled by a couple of RBI singles by rookie Joe Sewell in the first and second innings. A 3-run rally, capped by Rogers Hornby's 2-run double in the eight inning of play sealed the win for the Benedicts. Now the Benedicts wait as Austin and California are in a tight race for the 3rd playoff spot in the Knickerbocker League. Williston will play host in the Wild Card Series. 「boxscore」

Amarillo, TX (WBSP): In what could be a postseason preview, the Alto Wild Mustangs took 2 of 3 in their series against the Texas Tornados in their 4-3 win today. Sad Sam Jones won his 23rd of the season, contributing extra with a 2-run single in the 3rd inning. But the series was TIGHT, Alto edging Texas 12-11 in runs scored, each game decided by a 1-run margin, game 2 decided in the 12th. Macon, GA (WBSP): Stan Covelski's solid outing today extended the Tornado's win streak to 6 games, inching to within 2.5 games of the first place Wild Mustangs. Covelski pitched a complete game, allowing 2 earned on 7 hits. Third-baseman Larry Gardner led the Texas offense, knocking a 3-run dinger in the 5th. Macon's only 2 runs came in the bottom of the ninth, a brief rally that petered out when Clint Rogge grounded in a double play with 2 men on and no outs. 「boxscore」

Williston, ND (WBSP): Tris Speaker's clutch double in the bottom of the ninth scored 3 runs to send what looked like a sure Pioneer win into extras. A slew of singles in the 10th followed, Max Carey's driving in the winning run. Speaker had 3 doubles and a triple, with 4 RBIs on the day. Crack backstop Patsy Gharrity also collected 4 hits, including a homerun and double. A bitter loss for California, who despartely need a hot streak to climb back into the playoff race. Alto, NM (WBSP): Alto continues to hold steady atop the Doubleday League, in search of their first regular season pennant. Sad Sam Jones pitched all 9 and earned his 20th win of the season, most among WBS pitchers, and is now 20-3 with a 3.04 ERA. The only 2 runs Jones allowed came off a homerun and double by Babe Ruth; Ruth's 43rd homerun is well ahead of all other batters in the WBS. Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Heading into the final 2 months of play, Babe Ruth is well positioned to capture a Triple Crown in the Doubleday League. Ruth has locked up the homerun crown, currently at 39 and more than double anyone else in the league. His .389 average is 30 points ahead of Russ Wrighstone's second best .359. In the RBI department, Ruth has 95 followed by Tommy Griffth with 85. Ruth flirted with the Triple Crown last season, but this could be his best chance yet!

Blackwater, KY (WBSP): Alto continued their tear today, closing out back-to-back series sweeps of the Blackwater Outlaw, making it 16 wins in a row and improving to 61-30 on the seaon. Alto, NM (WBSP): The Doubledays defeated the Knickerbockers 9-4, taking a 2-1 series lead in the Midsummer Classic. Blackwater's Babe Ruth was named MVP of the game, playing a key component of each run-scoring innin for the Doubledays. After Ruth's solo shot in the first, the Doubledays never looked back. Ruth reach base in 4 of 5 plate appearances, including an intentional walk in a 3-run, 2nd-inning rally. Tornado Ray Powell added a 3-run shot 4th. The Doubledays got the pitching they needed from Sad Sam Jones and Red Faber. Jones opened the game with 3 no-hit innings. Faber got in trouble fast after entering the 4th inning: after giving up a run and loading the bases, Jones beaned Ray Grimes to give up run number 2. But Jones followed with clutch pitching, getting Roger Peckinpaugh and Tris Speaker to fly out and staunch the bleeding. Raleigh, NC (WBSP): Heading into the Midsummer Classic break, the Alto Wild Mustangs and Williston Wendigos sit atop the WBS. Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Williston's Patsy Gharrity led all players in the Classic voting, the only 2 players selected unanimously. Ruth is currently sitting in Triple Crown position leading the Doubleday League with a .388 average, 26 homeruns, and 70 RBIs. Gharrity has posted a .361 average with 9 homerune and 57 RBIs, leading Williston to the top of the Knickerbocker League.

The trouncing didn't come until the 10th inning however, as the game was tied 7-7 at the end of 9. Boston, MA (WBSP): George Sisler had a huge day for the Macon Whoopies, extending their win streak to 7 and climbing atop the Doubleday League. His lone RBI game on a solo, go-ahead homer in the top of the ninth to complete the cycle. Sisler also scored 4 times and swiped 2 bases. Alto, NM (WBSP): The Doubledays defeated the Knickerbockers 9-4, taking a 2-1 series lead in the Midsummer Classic. Blackwater's Babe Ruth was named MVP of the game, playing a key component of each run-scoring innin for the Doubledays. After Ruth's solo shot in the first, the Doubledays never looked back. Ruth reach base in 4 of 5 plate appearances, including an intentional walk in a 3-run, 2nd-inning rally. Tornado Ray Powell added a 3-run shot 4th. The Doubledays got the pitching they needed from Sad Sam Jones and Red Faber. Jones opened the game with 3 no-hit innings. Faber got in trouble fast after entering the 4th inning: after giving up a run and loading the bases, Jones beaned Ray Grimes to give up run number 2. But Jones followed with clutch pitching, getting Roger Peckinpaugh and Tris Speaker to fly out and staunch the bleeding. Blackwater's Babe Ruth and Williston's Patsy Gharrity led all players in the Classic voting, the only 2 players selected unanimously. Ruth is currently sitting in Triple Crown position leading the Doubleday League with a .388 average, 26 homeruns, and 70 RBIs. Gharrity has posted a .361 average with 9 homerune and 57 RBIs, leading Williston to the top of the Knickerbocker League.
